Rock of Ages Vermont Granite Quarry Tours, Factory Tours, Made in Vermont Gifts, and Fun Activities

558 Graniteville road, Graniteville, Vermont 05654
The year was 1924. Rhapsody in Blue was played for the very first time, IBM Corporation was founded, New York City hosted the inaugural Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Doris Day was born.  Swells and flappers were getting spifflicated in speakeasies and the automobumming craze took the nation by storm.

Rock of Ages mammoth quarries were a natural draw. Soon folks were arriving by the score to see our Barre granite quarries and our tour program was born of necessity. In 2008 our tour program went intergalactic when a portion of the exciting car chase scene for the 2009 Star Trek movie was filmed at our Smith Quarry. So whether your family travels here by flivver or by spaceship, you will find a warm welcome at Rock of Ages. Today we offer guided tours of mammoth, celebrated Smith Quarry, at nearly 600 feet deep, we believe it to be the largest operating deep-hole, dimension granite quarry in the world.

Our guests may also take a self-guided tour of our Vermont factory where you may watch our artisans as they turn granite into enduring works of art, proudly made in Vermont USA. Our factory is a study in contrasts, featuring modern diamond-tipped saws and laser-guided cutting equipment juxtaposed with men pitching and sculpting stone with techniques little changed since the time of Michelangelo.

Then watch the video and explore the exhibits at our Visitors Center, shop for granite gifts and jewelry, many of which are made right here in Vermont USA.  Browse an eclectic assortment of Vermont specialty gifts and other gemstone gifts from around the world. Then bowl for free on our outdoor granite lane and pick out a free souvenir piece of granite from the grout bin before you explore the hiking/biking trails at nearby Millstone Hill or the amazing, unusual memorials at nearby Hope Cemetery.
